Karolina Borowczyk
Karolina is a graduate of master’s studies at the Faculty of Vocalism and Acting of the Stanislaw Moniuszko Music Academy in Gdansk, in the class of Ewa Marciniec DMus Hab. Prior to this she obtained her bachelor’s degree in the class of Aleksandra Kucharska – Szefler DMus. She developed her acting skills under the guidance of Dorota Kolak PhD, Magdalena Boć MA, Marta Jankowska MA and Dariusz Szymaniak PhD. Before starting her University education she belonged to a theatre group “Scena 148” by the Community Theatre in Gdynia.
She participated in master classes conducted by prominent singers and pedagogues such as: Professor Helena Łazarska, Ewa Podleś, Professor Ewa Izykowska, Professor Piotr Łykowski, Marek Rzepka DMus, Adiego Bara and Neue Vocalsolisten Stuttgart Ensamble. Above that she participated in a „Song of Our Roots” Early Music Festival in Jaroslaw where, accompanied by the festival choir, she performed the following: G.F. Haendel’s Messiah (conducted by Robert Hugo), C. Monteverdi’s Vespro della beata Virgine (conducted by Marcel Pérès) and F.X.Brixi’s Missa in D (conducted by Dawida Kupisza O.P.)
In 2013 she sang the solo part in K. Jenkins’s The Armed Man - A Mass for Peace under the baton of Professor Marcin Tomczak. She took part in Stanislaw Moniuszko Music Academy’s students’ operas staged in the St. John’s Centre in Gdansk such as: G. Puccini’s Suor Angelica, CH.W.Gluck Orfeo ed Euridice. She was also a part of chamber ensemble of the Faculty of Vocalism and Acting students, with whom she has sang the choir parts of G.F.Haendel’s The Choice of Hercules. On 12th – 14th June 2014 she took part in an opera project of the Academy graduates Cosi Fan Tutte of W.A. Mozart directed by Krzysztof Knurek which was staged in the St. John’s Centre in Gdansk.
In 2015 in Elbląg, Karolina sang in G.B.Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater conducted by Michał Krężlewski. In May 2015 Karolina personally organised a staging of concert version of G.F.Haendel Orlando in which she performed the titular part. It was a part of her Bachelor’s diploma recital, for which she was graded a Distinction. In 2016 she passed the eliminations and joined Internationale Chorakademie Lübeck conducted by Rolf Beck. With the ensemble Karolina performed solo parts in G.F. Haendel’s Messiah and G. Rossini’s Petite Messe Solennelle. Thanks to this cooperation Karolina was able to take part in masterclasses conducted by Calmus Ensemble and, as one of the chosen soloists, with Margreet Honig and Marcel Boone. Karolina Borowczyk graduated from the Academy in June 2017. As her final project she sang a role of Bradamante in G.F.Haendel’s Opera Alcina, her final recital contained of, e.g., part of Farance from W.A.Mozart’s Mitridate, re di Ponto and Erda of R.Wagner’s Das Rheingold.
Karolina Borowczyk performs numerous songs of contemporary composers of Gdansk origins: Anna Racławska, Wojciech Frycz, Piotr Jędzjejczyk and Joanna Zlotowska. On the 6th February 2015, within the confines of vocal course in Duszniki-Zdrój, Karolina Borowczyk was taking part in a closing concert and was awarded a Honorous diploma for an outstanding performance. She was a part of Tutti e Solo choir, led by Wiktoria Batarowska MA. Choir’s repertoire varies from folk songs, baroque music, operatic choir pieces, to contemporary atonal pieces. In May 2014 the choir has recorded an album with contemporary Ukrainian cantatas for choir and soloists a capella Cztery pory roku and Kantata karpacka composed by Lasji Dyczko. Karolina has performer two solo parts on this album. Since the beginning of 2018 Karolina is collaborating with vocal and instrumental ensemble Cappella Gedanensis, in alto voice.
In 2018 along with Witosława Frankowska DMus Hab, Karolina recorded an album titled Navigare. The album was nominated to the annual Polish music award Fryderyk. The other album recordings Karolina took part in: pieces of Krzysztof Olczak to the words of Tomasz Fopke, and Orthodox Church choir chants recorded in St Nicholas Orthodox Church in Gdansk conducted by Anastazji Senkavets – the recording was a part of DMUs diploma.
She has also worked as a photo model inter alia in the Magnus Film makeup school.
Since 20th May 2017 she is happily married to Jakub Borowczyk, a prominent countertenor.
